ADI 201: Argument-Driven Inquiry Refresher

  • Workshop Description
  • This workshop gives teachers, who have already completed an introductory workshop or online course, an opportunity to review what a teacher and students should do during each stage of the ADI instructional model. The instructor will first demonstrate an ADI lab investigation from start to finish. The participants will then have an opportunity to practice creating and reviewing scientific arguments. Finally, the participants will review the characteristics of strong and weak investigation reports and how to score in an appropriate manner.

ADI 202: Classroom Management and Rehearsal Teaching

  • Workshop Description
  • This workshop focuses on classroom management techniques that teachers can use when implementing Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI). Participants will first learn about how to set up the physical space of the classroom so it is conducive for ADI lab investigations. Next, the participants will have an opportunity to learn about ways to establish productive classroom norms routines that to help foster a classroom knowledge-building community. The participants will then have an opportunity to create their own classroom management plan. The workshop will end with teachers having an opportunity to participate in a rehearsal teaching experience, which will give them an opportunity to lead one of the

ADI 203: Aligning an ADI investigation with Science and ELA Standards

  • ​Workshop Description
  • This workshop focuses on how ADI lab investigations align with state science and ELA standards. Participants will have an opportunity to first participate in a sample ADI investigation and will then learn how to identify the science and ELA standards addressed during a specific ADI investigation by using the sample investigation as a concrete example. The participants will also have an opportunity to identify ADI labs to integrate into their own curriculum.

ADI 204: How to Create an Argument-Driven Inquiry Lab Investigation

  • This workshop focuses on ways to how to create an ADI lab investigation to address a specific state standard by either modifying an existing lab activity or by creating a completely original investigation. Participants will also learn how to assess the quality of an ADI lab investigation and revise it in order to make it better.
